Designed to help businesses deploy data storage or virtualization environments, the TS-855X 8-Bay NAS Enclosure from QNAP enables high-speed connectivity for fast data access, backup/restoration, file server, and virtualization applications. Running the QTS operating system as standard, the TS-855X can be switched to use the ZFS-based QuTS hero operating system. With support for an extended period, this NAS is suitable for businesses requiring matching NAS models deployed in long-term projects.
Powered by a 2.8 GHz Intel Atom C5125 8-Core processor, the TS-855X is driven by 8GB of DDR4 memory that can be upgraded to 128GB. It also features a 10 Gigabit Ethernet port and two 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports port, as well as two PCIe 3.0 x4 slots that can accommodate a 2.5/5/10GbE network card, a QM2 card, or a Fiber Channel card. The TS-855X supports JBOD and Single, as well as a variety of RAID modes, including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 each of which offer data redundancy, speed, or a combination of both.
This 8-bay enclosure has the ability to natively house both 3.5" and 2.5" SATA III hard drives or SSDs, plus two M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 slots for enabling SSD caching, SSD storage pools, or Qtier auto-tiered storage. Using the external 5 Gb/s USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 and 480 Mb/s USB-A 2.0 ports, this QNAP NAS can be connected to other QNAP devices, as well as other external drives and accessories.
The TS-855X 8-Bay NAS Enclosure operates on 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz using a 250W power supply and stays cool using a 90mm CPU fan and dual 80mm system fans. It includes two Ethernet cables, a power cord, 32 screws for 3.5" drives, 24 screws for 2.5" drives, two M.2 SSD heat sinks, and two drive keys. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.
The TS-855X delivers exceptional 8-core performance for running multiple concurrent tasks. AES-NI encryption and Intel QuickAssist Technology (QAT) are supported to offload resource-demanding compression and improving IPsec/SSL cryptography performance. The TS-855X comes with four UDIMM DDR4 slots (8GB preinstalled) that can be upgraded to 128GB ECC RAM for higher workloads. Combining high performance, reliability, and capacity, the TS-855X is an all-round budget-friendly storage solution for diverse applications, such as file servers, high-speed storage/backup/recovery, and virtualization.
Featuring two native 2.5GbE RJ45 (2.5G/1G/100M) LAN ports and a 10GBASE-T (2.5G/1G/100M) port, the TS-855X satisfies bandwidth and reliability demanding business applications including virtualization, large file transfers, high-speed backup/restoration, and real-time applications. Combine the dual 2.5GbE ports with SMB 3.0 Multichannel for up to 5 Gb/s fault-tolerant connections. QNAP also offers numerous managed/unmanaged 2.5GbE/10GbE switches, assisting organizations in implementing high-speed, secure, and scalable network environments without going over budget.
The TS-855X comes with two M.2 PCIe Gen 3 slots that allow for installing M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs (including SSD brands of Micron, Seagate, and WD) or Edge TPU (sold separately) to boost NAS performance.
Configure SSD caching with M.2 SSDs and obtain optimal I/O and reduced latency without occupying any 3.5" drive bays.
Qtier technology empowers the TS-855X with auto tiering to continuously optimize storage efficiency across all installed storage devices.
Coral M.2 Accelerator with Edge TPU provides an affordable solution to leverage AI acceleration for faster image recognition in your NAS applications.
This must be purchased from the Coral website.
The TS-855X has two PCIe Gen 3 x4 slots that allow for installing various expansion cards to increase its application potential.
Enable lightning-fast throughput for bandwidth-demanding tasks (virtualization, huge data transmission, and fast backup/restore).
Add M.2 SSDs or 2.5GbE/10GbE connectivity to the TS-855X for optimized performance and bandwidth.
Connect the TS-855X to SAS 12 Gb/s or SATA 6 Gb/s expansion units for huge storage capacity.
Your team needs a high-speed environment and productivity boost, and the TS-855X delivers with two 2.5GbE ports. By installing two 4-port PCIe network cards (QXG-2G4T-I225), the TS-855X can directly connect to up to ten PC/workstations — no switch required — for faster large file transfer/backup, video editing, and much more.
Superior hardware performance with an all-in-one Backup Solution to speed up backup/recovery tasks.
PC and Mac Backup
Sync your computer and files to NAS with Qsync. The TS-855X also supports Time Machine for Mac computers.
License-Free VM Backup
Back up multiple VMware and Hyper-V VMs using Hyper Data Protector.
File Server Backup
Supports multiple protocols such as Rsync, FTP, and CIFS for backing up different file servers.
SaaS Business Backup Solution
Use Boxafe to easily back up Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 business account data.
Google Photos and WordPress Backup
The MARS service enables backing up Google Photos and WordPress databases and files to NAS.
Back Up Data from One NAS to Another NAS
Back up data on a local NAS to another remote NAS using Hybrid Backup Sync. You can also deduplicate your backup using QuDedup to save time and storage space.
Back Up NAS Data to the Cloud
Hybrid Backup Sync supports mainstream public cloud services for backing up or syncing data from NAS to Cloud.
Cloud Storage Gateway
VJBOD Cloud connects cloud object storage (Bucket) and back up data from NAS to the cloud.
Back Up NAS Snapshots
Use Snapshot Replica to back up NAS snapshots to another NAS and recover when needed.
The TS-855X supports block-based snapshots that record the state of the system at any time. It helps protect data, which can be restored back to a specific point of time, greatly helping in mitigating the threat of ransomware.
Volume and LUN Snapshots
Take snapshots in seconds and revert the entire volume/LUN back to a specific point in time to prevent loss of important data.
Instantly Restore Snapshots
Snapshot content can be quickly restored to a local NAS, or restored on a folder/file basis to a local/remote NAS or cloud storage. You can also conveniently view and restore snapshots from the client side.
Back Up Snapshots
Multiply data protection by backing up snapshot files. Replicate volume/LUN snapshots in the TS-855X to a remote NAS (Snapshot Replica) by copying only the changes made. This helps save time and bandwidth, and can be run manually or on a scheduled basis.
The TS-855X supports block-based iSCSI LUN as a reliable, high-performance, and affordable storage solution for mainstream virtualization environments. It supports VMware VAAI and Microsoft ODX to increase performance by offloading server loading for ESXi server and Hyper-V respectively.
By running multiple virtual machines and containers on the TS-855X, you can deploy multi-tenant environments and applications to increase management efficiency and save hardware costs. Coupled with the Network & Virtual Switch app that boosts interoperability between virtual machines, containers, QNAP NAS, and other physical devices on the network, you can flexibly allocate physical and virtual network resources to simplify network deployment.
