Product highlights and buying context
The Celestron Travel Scope DX 70mm f/6 AZ Refractor Telescope is designed for portability and ease of use for both astronomical and Earth-bound use, and with a slew of accessories including a smartphone adapter you'll be able to document, share, and post everything you see.
Its refractor-style optical tube assembly (OTA) has a respectable aperture that gathers the light needed to get great views of the moon, large planets like Jupiter and Mars, as well as stars and constellations. A photo-style alt-az pan/tilt head easily mounts the OTA with a simple screw and has a single control handle that enables smooth movement and locks the altitude in place for hands-free use to minimize vibration. Supporting it all is a photo-style tripod that collapses low enough for tabletop use and extends to full-sized height.
In addition to the smartphone photo adapter, Celestron includes a Bluetooth remote shutter release that is compatible with most Android and iOS phones so you can take a photo or video without having to touch your devices, which can cause unwanted vibrations. For visual observation, you also get a moon filter to safely look at it, an erecting prism that corrects views horizontally and laterally so the Travel Scope can be used as a conventional spotting scope, plus two eyepieces and a 2x Barlow lens. Everything in this kit—OTA, tripod, head, and accessories—fits inside a dedicated canvas backpack to make it as portable as possible.
Mount: * Manual pan/tilt photo-style alt-azimuth * Control handle for easier pan/tilt and subject tracking * Locking handle sets altitude * Integrated level
Tripod: * Easy-use photo-style * Adjustable height from 22 to 52" * Lightweight and durable aluminum legs * Four 1.25" diameter leg sections allow it to be set on a table or extended to full height * Extendable center column makes it a full-sized tripod with a compact form factor * Simple snap-locks allow for fast setup and breakdown * Center tray holds accessories like eyepieces, filters, and smartphones and keeps them close at hand
Basic Smartphone Digiscoping Adapter: * Fast and easy installation and use * Capture photos and video through any eyepiece * Fits most smartphone models and can often be used with case still on phone * Not just for telescopes—use on spotting scopes, binoculars, microscopes, and all kinds of optical devices
Remote Shutter Release: * Reduce vibration by taking a picture with your phone without having to touch it * Near-universal compatibility with Android or iOS smartphones * Bluetooth connectivity is fast and easy
Eyepieces: * 1.25" diameter barrel accepts most astronomical filters * 10mm produces 40x power * 20mm produces 20x magnification
Moon Filter: * Fits most 1.25" eyepieces and can easily be moved between eyepieces * Neutral density filter reduces the brightness of the moon, without changing its color, for safe viewing when it is more than half-full * Transmits light uniformly across the entire visual spectrum while stepping down the light throughput by 87% * Improves contrast while eliminating reflections, ghosting, or stray interference light
Barlow Lens: * 1.25" nosepiece and holder is compatible with all accessories in the telescope kit * 2x magnification effectively doubles the power of each eyepiece, producing high magnifications without affecting eye relief to make viewing more comfortable
Diagonal: * 45° angle puts head in comfortable position for celestial and terrestrial viewing * Integrated erecting prism corrects view horizontally and vertically for land use * 1.25" diameter eyepiece holder accepts many eyepieces and accessories
Finderscope: * Low 5x magnification produces a wide field of view to make finding subjects easy and star-hopping navigation faster * Straight-through viewing * Mounting bracket included
Backpack: * Water- and tear-resistant canvas * Holds scope, tripod, mount, and accessories * Padded interior protects gear
