Beyerdynamic M 88 Dynamic Moving-Coil Hypercardioid Microphone

Redesigned M 88 Dynamic Mic: Classic Sound, Warm Low End, Modern Look

Manufactured since 1963 in Heilbronn, Germany, the updated Beyerdynamic M 88 Dynamic Moving-Coil Hypercardioid Microphone retains its renowned sound signature while sporting a fresh new look. Known for its warm low end and gentle treble boost, the M 88 is a versatile tool for capturing kick drums, toms, guitar/bass amps, brass, vocals, and speech for podcasts—with detail and clarity. The mic's versatility, durability, and excellent technical properties make it an indispensable asset for professionals seeking exceptional sound quality for any studio recording and demanding live performances alike.

Hypercardioid Precision

• Equipped with a hypercardioid polar pattern, the M 88 prioritizes sound from the front while rejecting side and rear signals.
• This design reduces room noise and enhances feedback resistance, making it ideal for use in loud or acoustically challenging environments.

A Classic with Depth

• The M 88 stands out with its impressive frequency response of 30 Hz to 20 kHz and delivers natural, uncolored sound. Its ability to handle extremely high sound pressure levels ensures a clear and distortion-free signal, making it versatile for a wide range of applications.
• For kick drums, sound engineers and drummers appreciate the M 88's pronounced proximity effect and extended bass response. The mic also excels in capturing the dynamic characteristics of toms, electric guitar amps, bass guitar amps, and wind instruments.
• For optimal performance with kick drums, pair the M 88 with the WS 59 AZ windscreen (available separately).

Ideal for Speech and Vocals

• Whether in the studio or live on stage, the M 88 has earned its reputation as a timeless favorite for vocals. Its outstanding technical performance, combined with a detailed bass response and a smooth treble lift, makes it ideal for singers.
• The microphone also shines in speech-focused applications, such as podcasting and voiceovers, thanks to its hypercardioid polar pattern, which effectively minimizes room noise for a clean and professional sound.

Inside the M 88: Precision Engineering

• At the heart of the M 88 is a Hostaphan diaphragm, a wafer-thin, low-mass foil with exceptional vibration characteristics. This component ensures superior impulse response, setting the M 88 apart from typical dynamic microphones.
• Additionally, an integrated hum-compensation coil reduces electromagnetic interference, ensuring clean recordings, even in electronically dense environments.

Built to Last: Compact, Durable Design

• With its compact size and lightweight design, the M 88 offers unparalleled ease of positioning in any recording or live-sound scenario.
• Its rugged brass housing withstands daily wear and tear.
• Further enhancing its durability and sound quality, the microphone features a handmade, triple-layered, silver-colored grille.
• With an excellent service policy, nearly every component of the M 88 is replaceable, ensuring a long service life.
• A durable hard case is included for added protection.
