Product highlights and buying context
Easily capture optimized 3D immersive audio for film, broadcast, and live event applications with the Audio-Technica BP3600, a unique microphone array consisting of eight 3.5" hypercardioid condenser assemblies arranged in an equidistant manner to form a cube. Perfectly arranged for consistent surround audio pickup, the BP3600 can capture up to eight audio channels at once.
Each capsule is separated from the other by 5.9 inches. The near-coincident array provides excellent spaciousness and a controlled separation that few other immersive microphones can provide. The compact capsules help keep the array lightweight and small, making it easy to mount in a variety of environments. Each of the eight TA3F connectors for each mic assembly sports special cap locks for resistance against water. The 16-pin LEMO output connector can feed the eight channels of audio to the special LEMO-to-XLR eight-way breakout cable (sold separately) with color-coded XLR connectors for each channel. This setup makes it easy to integrate your immersive audio into existing MPEG-H 3D workflows. This version of the BP3600 includes eight windscreens, eight mic assemblies, the core mic body with integrated 5/8"-27 shock-mounted stand clamp, and a 3/8"-16 threaded stand adapter.
Note: this purchase does not include the special LEMO 16-Pin to XLR breakout cable. This cable is required for capturing all eight mic signals from the BP3600.
The precise positioning of the eight microphone capsules mirrors that of the ambient speaker channels in a standard 5.1.4 surround setup, providing quick and easy ambient sound capture. The BP3600 provides stable, three-dimensional audio for live broadcasts, concerts, festivals, film, virtual entertainment, game audio design, and much more.
Each microphone assembly is equipped with a 12mm hypercardioid capsule for consistent, focused pickup, producing ideally separated, discrete signals to each channel. The diminutive capsules also keep the entire unit small and lightweight, enabling quick setup and inconspicuous use for video broadcasts. The main unit's TA3F microphone connectors are outfitted with color-coded and numbered channel indicator rings for easy reference and come with water protection caps to guard against rain and other precipitations.
At the end of the BP3600's easy-carry grip is a 16-pin LEMO output connector to which a 16.4' LEMO-to-eight XLRM breakout cable (sold separately) can be attached to route the eight channels to a mixing console or audio interface. LEMO-to-LEMO extension cables are available separately for use between the microphone and the breakout cable to increase the length of the cable run. A safety ring provides additional security when suspending the microphone above spectators in grandstands, stadiums, or auditoriums.
